…To Earthsong…

We’re beginning to feel  truly at home in Earthsong now, partly because  it’s almost a  year since we decided to buy Number 8 and we’ve spent time there frequently ever since;  also because many  of the values underlying Earthsong Eco-Neighbourhood are similar to those we have been living by at earthtalk.

The 32 houses are set in organic permaculture gardens and orchards, though smaller, and we have created our own productive garden.   The seventy diverse people are committed to cooperative decision-making and to maintaining a caring community.

There are always projects underway for the continuing improvement of environment and relationships.

12-img_1535One recent change  was the installation of three of Nic Moon’s Breaths generosity in lending Earthsong two of the sculptures (the third belongs to Tanya and will remain permanently) , and by the hard work of the Earthsong team.

Ranui Community Action

On the same day as the installation, Ranui Community Action network held its monthly meeting in the Earthsong Common House for the first time.  There are close and growing links between Earthsong and its surrounding community – Lippy Chalmers, an Earthsong resident,  has been running the Ranui Community House and the courses, services and activities it offers, for some years, and other residents are involved with a career advisory service, Ranui School homework support activities and the Ranui Organic Food Co-op and Friday Evening Market.  The Ranui Action Project is coordinated by the dynamic Hinemoa Key, and brings together a wide range of locals and external services.

Our new life…

We’re looking forward to  a month of long sleeps, a more gentle lifestyle, time to link up with old friends, and make new ones, and being able to hop on the train to go to cultural and political activities in the city.  There is no shortage of interesting projects in both Earthsong and the wider community for us to be involved in as and when we choose.
