Awhitu…

Awhitu… said to mean”A Longing to Return“..

It is true that while we have no urge any longer  to be managing a 28 acre farm, we love going back to the Awhitu Peninsula, and staying at Orua Bay.

Orua is one of the lovelier beaches in the wider Auckland region- good sand, safe swimming in clear water, views across to the Waitakeres , and sparsely used except in the height of the summer holiday period.  We’ve decided to  book a favourite water’s edge bach – Lupin Lodge, at the Orua Bay motor Camp – for a few regular escapes from city life this year .

This also gives us the opportunity to catch up with our Ngaati Te Ata friends George, in Waiuku, Moea and her whanau at Tahuna Marae, Alison and Steve -owners of our former earthtalk, Laxmi and Jeram at the Matakawau Supermarket,  and other friends and neighbours around the area.

Plus, of course, lots of time for swimming, walking and reading.
